AFWNY 2012

SNOB EFFECT

Covers AFWNY

Fashion | Culture | Design | Art |

Africa Fashion Week is a luxury multi-day event in Lower Manhattan includes a series of runway shows, vendor exhibition, and industry networking events with the sole purpose of raising awareness of African Fashion/Entertainment professionals all over the world. The Snob Effect Team was front and center to witness once again this years show was a complete mix of both modern and traditional  African influenced designs. The Menswear this year was definitely a highlight of the show tailored suits, modern cuts, and contrasting colors. The accessories was a splash of bold tones, chunky necklaces and bracelets, and beautiful detailed structured clutches in traditional Kente fabric by Designer Ama Sika of Ani Siya.

Korto Momolu absolutely stole the show as a fan and fellow designer I have had the opportunity to watch her evolve into something incredible. Her rich deep colors, silk draped fabric and sheer gowns had the Snob Effect Team asking where and how much??

Designer Allex Kangala menswear designer did a very nice union of classic and the modern man suit. By mixing pastels with pinstripes or mixes of color blocking and even using some less traditional fabrics for men. Though the fit was a bit snug than we would prefer we were pleasantly pleased!

Below are some of the show highlights

2012 COLOR TREND

SEA FOAM AND CORAL | 2012|COLOR TREND
This summer/spring color trending has made a major fashion statement pastels, neon's, and vacation tones. What's Vacation tones?  Those are tones like coral pink or orange, sea foam green, and even a light shade of blue. Usually worn when on vacation pulling from the natural tones of the sea. Well, instead of sand footprints they are all over the runway executed by designers such as Marc Jacobs, Louis Vuitton and Chanel.

When wearing Vacation Tones try to break it up with white or another contrast color within the same tone. Be careful when attempting to mix pastels with neon's... seek a professional if your not sure. Don't be afraid to go for statement pieces since these colors can be worn each spring summer season, and if not they always look great on beach destinations!

ZANOTTI GOES WEST

KANYE WEST recently released his much anticipated collaboration with Giuseppe Zanotti Heels first male rap artist to branch over into the luxury woman shoe business. Due to Kayne's sneaker lines high success with both Louis Vuitton and Nike this collaboration seems only natural. With a price tag of nearly 5,800 already worn by Chanel Iman, and Kim Kardashian elaborate adornment of pearls, a high cuff  and made of calf skin. Certainly a luxury shoe BUT, are they worth it?

We must say for Kayne West first time we would have to agree that these are
